I want to sew

I had quilting on my mind tonight. I love blankets and I want to get into sewing. I have found Obsessively Stitching: First quilt ever plot and it looks like a good place to start and get to know the basics.

I found this Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern on McCall's Quilting for when I know what I am doing.

New plants

Today I got two new plants, another tomato and pepper. Now I have a little farm growing outside of my house. I'm starting to worry about the tree that is growing fast in my little courtyard blocking the sun from my plants, but they seem to get doing ok for now. Also I think one of the luffas that I planted is actually going to grow. I have not seen anything come up yet and was starting to worry once my lettuce started coming up, but I digged a little bit and found something.

New things

Today I finally go the easel of my dreams, after years of staring to at it wishfully at Jo Ann's. My mom and I went to Jo Ann's this morning and while me telling her about another stores easels we saw that they were selling their display models. So after taking it down and checking it out my mom said she would get it for me as my early birthday present. Other things gotten today more fabric to add to my stash.

I'm full

The dinner that I thought was tomorrow ended up being tonight. We went to the Melting Pot. Things to know if you are going to eat at the Melting Pot:

1) Don't eat lunch before you are going to the Melting Pot. Trust me, you get four courses, you will be full by the second one.

2) Be prepared to stay there a while, never gotten out of there faster than two and a half hours.

3) It is not cheap.

The blank book

Same times you just have to get over the ominous new sketchbook and it's scary blank pages and draw some thing. Not what I had plan on being my first page, but this is what came out.

This afternoon I cleaning up my back porch. I would like to make it a space I actually use, not just for laundry. I am on a real big plant kick right now and would love to try doing plants back there.

My garden

Went shopping with my dad and got a few plants. Now I have sweet and hot peppers, early girl tomatoes, my succulents with my new aloe, cauliflower, clover stolen from one of my dads plants, lettuce, and luffas. I also have seeds for cat grass, sunflowers, and wildflowers to still plant.

Cleaning

I slept in today, it was very nice and I really need it. After that I really didn't do much. I did do some cleaning today and things are starting to look a lot better. I still have somethings that I want to fix in the dining room. After I get the front of my place all fixed up I have the difficult project of my back bedroom, which is both my guestroom and storage/craft room (little more storage right now). I started to trace out more roses this evening. I going to make another 7 for now, so I have a dozen and one to try coloring. While I was on the floor doing this I took my tortoise out and put he down next to me so I could watch him. He watched me and my cats watched him.

Grow little seed

Lately I have been wanting a garden really bad. I don't really have a good luck with plants, I only thing I seem to do ok with is bamboo and that is because it is low maintenance. Another problem that I have it is the space for it. I don't like having the windows open so I don't have a space for house plants. My back patio only gets the morning light and my front gets the few afternoon light. I would like to plant vegetables (lettuces, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, and carrots), wildflowers, and sunflowers. The sunflowers need sun so a could put them in the front, but I don't know about the others. At work today I asked one of the ladies that I work with for her avocado pit. I planted it when I got home and it is sitting in my kitchen window. I have a few random pots and a bag of dirt just have to figure out what and where I want to plant. I would like to do seeds, but that may take to long. I think I'm going to get my dad to get me some plants when he came to visit me soon.

Craft shopping

I did a little shopping today at Walmart and Jo Ann's. At Walmart I got 200 more coffee filters to make a few more roses, a set of 3 Pyrex containers, and a very cute Linus t-shirt. At Jo Ann's I got a 5.5x8 hard bound sketch book, a mini Calligraphy pen set, a size 4 circular knitting needle to make more of my favorite bags that is shown in the pic, some very pretty blue vintage label fabric, and remnant of white felt and blue embroidery thread to make some sand dollars. I didn't have to pay so much for my lovely new things, I used two gift cards that I have had for a while. There were some books at Jo Ann's that I said no to maybe I can find them cheaper some place else or the library. They are Craft Cycle, re-bound, Sean Conway's Cultivating Life, The Big Green Book of recycled crafts, and Garden Anywhere.

On my way walking from one store to the other I found these seed pods on the side of the road. I thought they were interesting and collected a few of them to take home. I thinks I am going to end up putting them in my kitchen, but we will see.

The day of many things

This morning I went to Walgreen's and got hair dye. After many years of being a blonde I have decided that it is time for a change, I am now a golden redhead. I really like it, it's exciting.

I went to Costco to get more coffee filters and they didn't have any. The lady from Martha said that she got her's from there. I was really upset that they didn't have any I went there just to get then. While I was there I did find two books. The first is Eat, Prey, Love which I have wanted to read since I saw the preview from it with Julia Roberts in it. The second is Now Eat This! with comfort food for under 350 calories.

These are my books to read right now. First Bed of Roses which I only have from the library for the next two weeks. Next Water for Elephants lent to me by a friend at work that said I have to read it. Lastly my two new books.

I have started cleaning my house this afternoon. This is my new project. After looking at so many crafting/diy sites I have many ideas in my head, which have made me want to redo my place. I have started reorganizing my kitchen, getting rid of things that I don't use. I also want to add color to my place it has way to much white space.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to go to Jo Ann's to get me a sketch book. The blogs are getting to me and I'm liking so many things, but I don't like bookmarking them because I never remember what the sites are. I want some place were I can put them down and see them.

Need more filters

Tonight I finished wrapping my five roses that I cut out the last night. I have four of them all ready and two wait to be open up. I really like how they are turning out. I'm going to add color to the roses tomorrow once I'm done opening and curling them all up. I am all ready planning to make more. After cutting out all the petals yesterday I only have four filters left from my box of 40. Going to have to do some shopping on my days off here for more.

April 11, 2010

Just keep cutting

Tonight I out enough petals to make five more filter roses. The cutting and tracing was very boring, want to stop and just make some roses, but I told myself to just keep cutting. I will make the roses tomorrow.

April 10, 2010

Dear Martha

Dear Martha, Your pattern to make coffee filter roses is a waste of paper. If you tried you could fit more than one filter pattern for page. Also you can cut all the pattern pieces out of six filters not the eight the you say.

After cutting out the petals to make the rose

After putting the rose together

Here is the finished rose for now before it gets colored. Going to make some more now.

Sleep is calling to me

Was so tired after working late today that nothing is happening tonight, but sleep. Go the coffee filters at work, will try making the roses tomorrow.

Other blogs

I never really visited blogs before I had my own. Had a class in college were we had to make a blog for a project and I was going to keep the blog up after it was done, but of course I didn't. Lately I have Stumble on to many blogs. My favorite are the crafting, diy, and cooking ones. I found myself in blogging heaven this afternoon and will share with you three of my new finds.

Rest

It feels so good resting to day after the last few days, to bad I had to go to work today or it would have been perfect. I didn't feel like running today when I got home from work. It is going to hurt tomorrow when I do going running because it has been a few days. Instead I have been sitting watching two of the bollywood movies that I got from netflix. The last one was a 90's one which was very funny to watch, so different from the newer ones.

April 4, 2010

Suger and color

Today I made technicolored cupcakes and meringues. Sadly they both didn't turn out quiet right. I didn't have good old so my mom told me to use a thing of applesauce that she had and I think that is why they came out to soft. We used sucralose for the meringues because my mom kind not have sugar and they turned out off too. Have to keep trying.

April 3, 2010

More eggs

Tonight I dyed 3 dozen more eggs with my mom and that is the last of them. Out to of the two times that I have done eggs this year the blue dye has been the best and the pink/red has been the worst. Tried the pink with and without vinegar and got the same results both times. I want two have the bright colors that your see on the box and the only one that seems to come out the way is the blue. Another thing that my friend and I noticed is that you no longer get technicolor egg-salad like we remember from your childhood. Wast that dye different than what we use now, because I miss the rainbow sandwich.

April 2, 2010

Friday

Today I went to the grocery store looking for food coloring to make rainbow funfetti cupcakes for Easter, but they didn't have any. They had food coloring gels, but they were $5.40 and I really didn't feel like spending that much when I just wanted the basic dye. Oh well I will just wait to get it at work tomorrow.

Other that that and a quick walk to the post office to get stamps I have been cleaning to get ready for Easter. I picked up and vacuumed my living room this morning. Tonight I hard boiled 3 dozen eggs to color tomorrow with my mom. While doing this I wasted all my dishes. I'm still not ready and wish that I didn't have to work tomorrow to finish getting ready.

Pictures of my first dozen of eggs this year.

April first

I can't believe that it is almost Easter, only 2 more days, still have to clean my house and get ready for it. I feel like making some dessert or something for it, but I don't know what to make with my mom being diabetic. Don't want to make something that she is not going to be able to eat and be stuck with a lot of some fating food that I try to eat before it goes bad. Properly will end up doing nothing because I have been so sleepy lately. We will see what happens.
